Spiritual & Deep Meaning
Zuhd is an attitude towards worldly life in Islam, a quest to avoid worldly excesses and draw closer to Allah. In the tradition of Sufism, Zuhd is a lifestyle encouraged to ensure that the hearts of believers turn towards Allah and remain indifferent to worldly possessions. Zuhd not only involves staying away from material possessions but also includes avoiding excessive attachment to worldly affairs. When addressing the concept of Zuhd, Imam Ghazali aims for the individual to discipline their ego and spiritually elevate themselves.
