O believers! Fulfill your obligations. Except for what will be communicated to you, animals are made lawful for you, provided that you do not consider hunting permissible while in a state of ihram; Allah decrees what He wills. O believers! Do not disrespect the symbols of Allah, nor the sacred month, nor the sacrificial animals, nor those animals adorned with collars, nor those who come to the Sacred House seeking bounty and pleasure from their Lord. You may hunt when you are out of ihram. Let not your hatred for a people who have barred you from the Sacred Mosque lead you to transgression; cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. Fear Allah; indeed, Allah's punishment is severe. Dead animals, blood, pork, and that which has been slaughtered in the name of other than Allah—unless you have slaughtered them before their death—those that have been strangled, beaten to death, fallen down, gored by horns, or eaten by wild animals, and those that have been sacrificed on stone altars, and seeking to draw lots with arrows are all prohibited to you; these are acts of transgression. Today, those who disbelieve have despaired of your religion; so do not fear them, but fear Me. Today, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and chosen for you Islam as your religion. But if one is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. They ask you what has been made lawful for them. Say: "Lawful for you are the good and pure things; and what you have taught your trained hunting animals, teaching them from what Allah has taught you, so eat of what they catch for you and mention the name of Allah upon it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is swift in account." Today, good and pure things have been made lawful for you. The food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them. And [lawful in marriage] are chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you, provided you give them their due compensation, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse or taking [them] as secret lovers. And whoever denies the faith—his work has become worthless, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers. O believers! When you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows, and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make for you in the religion any difficulty, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful. And remember the favor of Allah upon you and His covenant with which He bound you when you said, "We hear and we obey." And fear Allah; indeed, Allah knows that which is within the breasts. O believers! Be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is Acquainted with what you do. Indeed, Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds [that] they will have forgiveness and great reward. But those who disbelieve and deny Our verses—those are the companions of Hellfire. O believers! Remember the favor of Allah upon you when a people intended to extend their hands against you, but He restrained their hands from you. And fear Allah; and upon Allah let the believers rely. And [recall] when Allah took a covenant from the Children of Israel, [enjoining upon them] that We would send to them messengers. And We appointed twelve leaders among them. And Allah said, "Indeed, I am with you." "Let it be that I cover your evils. And I swear that I will place you in gardens beneath which rivers flow. After this, whoever among you disbelieves has certainly strayed from the right path," he said. We cursed them for breaking their word, and hardened their hearts. They change the words from their places. They have forgotten a portion of what they were reminded of. You will always see treachery from a few of them; so forgive and overlook. Indeed, Allah loves the doers of good. We had taken a covenant from those who say, "We are Christians"; but they forgot a portion of what they were reminded of, so We caused enmity and hatred to arise among them until the Day of Resurrection. Allah will inform them of what they used to do. O People of the Book! Our Messenger has come to you to make clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and to overlook much. Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book. Allah guides thereby whoever follows His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out from darknesses into the light by His permission and guides them to a straight path. "Indeed, those who say, 'The Messiah, son of Mary, is but a messenger of Allah,' have certainly disbelieved." Say, "And who could prevent Allah at all if He had intended to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, or his mother, or everyone on the earth?" And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is within them. He creates what He wills. And Allah is over all things competent. The Jews and the Christians said, "We are the children of Allah and His beloved." Say, "Then why does He punish you for your sins? Rather, you are but human beings among those He has created." He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. And to Him is the final destination. O People of the Book! When there came to you Our Messenger, making clear to you the period between the messengers, lest you say, "There came not to us any bringer of good tidings or a warner," so indeed, there has come to you a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And Allah is over all things competent. Moses said to his people, "O my people! Remember the favor of Allah upon you when He appointed among you prophets and made you kings and gave you what He had not given anyone among the worlds." "O my people! Enter the holy land which Allah has assigned to you and do not turn back, lest you become losers," he said. They said, "O Moses! Indeed, in it is a people of tyrants, and indeed, we will not enter it until they leave it. But if they leave it, then we will enter." And two men from those who feared [to disobey] upon whom Allah had bestowed favor said, "Enter upon them through the gate, for when you have entered it, you will be victorious. And upon Allah, if you should be believers, rely." They said, "O Moses! Indeed, we will not enter it ever as long as they are in it. So go, you and your Lord, and fight. Indeed, we are sitting right here." Moses said, "My Lord, indeed, I only have control over myself and my brother, so part us from the disobedient people." Allah said, "Indeed, it has been decreed upon them for forty years that they will wander the earth. So do not grieve over the disobedient people." And relate to them the story of Adam's two sons in truth, when they both offered a sacrifice and it was accepted from one of them but not accepted from the other. He said, "Indeed, I will kill you." His brother said, "Indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous." "If you should raise your hand against me to kill me, I will not raise my hand against you to kill you. Indeed, I fear Allah, Lord of the worlds. I want you to obtain thereby my sin and your sin, and so you would be among the companions of the Fire, and that is the recompense of wrongdoers." And his soul permitted to him the murder of his brother, so he killed him and became among the losers. Allah sent a raven searching in the ground to show him how to cover the corpse of his brother. To show this, We sent a crow that scratched the ground. He said, "Woe is me! I am unable to be like this crow to cover my brother's corpse," and thus he became one of those who regretted. For this reason, We wrote to the Children of Israel: "Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely." And indeed, Our messengers came to them with clear proofs, but even then, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land. The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive to spread corruption in the land is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment. Except for those who repent before you overtake them. And know that Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. O you who have believed, fear Allah and seek the means of nearness to Him and strive in His cause that you may succeed. Indeed, those who disbelieve - if they had all that is in the earth and the like of it with it to ransom themselves from the punishment of the Day of Resurrection, it would not be accepted from them, and for them is a painful punishment. They wish to get out of the Fire, but they will not be able to get out of it, and theirs is a lasting punishment. As for the male thief and the female thief, amputate their hands in recompense for what they earned as a deterrent [punishment] from Allah. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. But whoever repents after his wrongdoing and reforms, indeed, Allah will accept his repentance. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. Do you not know that to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth? He punishes whom He wills and forgives whom He wills, and Allah is over all things Competent. Let not those who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists grieve you that they are not believers in Allah and in the Last Day. Their deeds are worthless, and in the Hereafter, they will not be among the successful. Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures. Their reward with their Lord will be gardens of eternity beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord. Indeed, We sent Moses with Our signs and a clear authority to Pharaoh and his establishment, but they followed the command of Pharaoh, and Pharaoh's command was not [based on] right guidance. He will go before his people on the Day of Resurrection and lead them into the Fire, and wretched is the place to which they are led. And they were followed in this world with a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection, wretched is the gift given. And those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed, it is they who are the transgressors. We have sent down to you the Book in truth, confirming what was before it and as a witness over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and do not follow their desires, since the truth has come to you. For each of you, We have appointed a law and a method; if Allah had willed, He would have made you one nation, but He tests you in what He has given you. So race towards good deeds; to Allah is your return, and He will inform you of that in which you used to differ. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and do not let their desires turn you away from some of what Allah has sent down to you. And if they turn away, then know that Allah intends to punish them for some of their sins. Indeed, many among the people are transgressors. Do they seek the judgment of ignorance? And who is better than Allah in judgment for a people who are certain? O you who have believed! Do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies; they are allies of one another. And whoever among you takes them as an ally, then indeed, he is one of them. Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people. And you will surely find that those in whose hearts is a disease hasten to them, saying, "We fear that a misfortune may strike us." But perhaps Allah will bring about a victory or a command from Himself, and then they will become regretful for what they had concealed within themselves. And the believers will say, "Are these the ones who swore by Allah their strongest oaths that they were with you?" Their deeds have become worthless, and they have become the losers. O you who have believed! Whoever of you renounces his religion - Allah will bring forth a people He will love and who will love Him, humble toward the believers, powerful against the disbelievers; they strive in the cause of Allah and do not fear the blame of a critic. That is the favor of Allah; He bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allah is All-Encompassing and Knowing. Your ally is none but Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed - those who establish prayer and give zakah, and who bow [in worship]. And whoever allies with Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed - indeed, the party of Allah will be the predominant. O you who have believed! Do not take those who took their religion as amusement and diversion from among those who were given the Scripture before you and the disbelievers as allies. And fear Allah if you should be believers. And when you call to prayer, they take it in ridicule and amusement. That is because they are a people who do not understand. Say, "O People of the Scripture! Do you resent us for [believing in] Allah and what has been revealed to us and what was revealed before us, and because most of you are transgressors?" Say, "Shall I inform you of something worse than that, which has been revealed from Allah? [It is] for whom Allah has cursed and upon whom is His wrath and made among them apes and pigs and those who worship Taghut. Those are worse in position and further astray from the sound way." And when they come to you, they say, "We have believed." But they entered with disbelief and they exited with it. And Allah knows best what they were concealing. And you see many of them hastening to sin and aggression and their consuming of unlawful gain. How wretched is that which they were doing! Why do the scholars and the rabbis not forbid them from saying what is sinful and their consuming of unlawful gain? How wretched is that which they were doing! The Jews said, "The hand of Allah is chained." Their hands are chained, and they are cursed for what they say. Rather, both of His hands are extended; He spends however He wills. And certainly, your Lord's punishment will increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. And We have cast among them animosity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection. Every time they kindled the fire of war, Allah extinguished it; and they strive to cause corruption throughout the land, and Allah does not like the corrupters. If the People of the Book had believed and been conscious of their duty, We would have covered their evil deeds and admitted them into Gardens of Delight. If they had truly applied the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to them from their Lord, they would have attained every kind of good. Among them were a moderate group, but most of what they did was evil. O Prophet! Convey what has been revealed to you from your Lord; if you do not do so, you have not conveyed His message. Allah will protect you from people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelievers. "O People of the Book! You have no foundation until you uphold the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord." Indeed, what has been revealed to you from your Lord increases many of them in transgression and disbelief. So do not grieve for the disbelievers. Indeed, those who believe, and the Jews, the Sabians, and the Christians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does righteous deeds, there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. Indeed, We took a covenant from the Children of Israel and sent messengers to them. Whenever a messenger came to them with what their souls did not desire, a party of them they denied, and another party they killed. They thought there would be no trial, so they became blind and deaf; then Allah accepted their repentance; yet many of them became blind and deaf. And Allah is All-Seer of what they do. Indeed, those who say, "Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary," have certainly disbelieved. But the Messiah said, "O Children of Israel! Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Indeed, whoever associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And the wrongdoers will not have any helpers." Indeed, they have disbelieved who say, "Allah is one of three." There is no deity except one God. If they do not desist from what they are saying, there will surely touch the disbelievers among them a painful punishment. Will they not repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. The Messiah, son of Mary, was but a messenger; messengers had passed on before him. And his mother was a woman of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear the signs to them; then look how they are deluded! "Do you worship besides Allah that which does not possess for you the power to harm or benefit?" Say, "Allah is All-Hearing and All-Knowing." "O People of the Book! Do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs." Never would the Messiah disdain to be a servant of Allah, nor would the angels near [to Him]. And whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant - He will gather them to Himself altogether. As for those who have believed and done righteous deeds, He will give them their due and increase them from His bounty. But as for those who disdained and were arrogant, He will punish them with a painful punishment, and they will not find for themselves besides Allah any protector or defender. Write down the witnesses. You will see those who say, "Why should we not believe in Allah and in the truth that has come to us while we hope that our Lord will place us among the righteous?" Allah has given them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, as a reward for those who do good deeds. And those who disbelieve and deny Our signs, they are the companions of the Hellfire. O Believers! Do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress the limits. Indeed, Allah does not like those who exceed the limits. Eat from the good and lawful provisions that Allah has provided for you, and be conscious of Allah, in whom you believe. Allah will not hold you accountable for your random oaths, but He will hold you accountable for your deliberate oaths. The expiation for an oath is to feed ten needy people from the average of what you feed your own families, or to clothe them, or to free a slave. And whoever cannot find [the means] must fast for three days; that is the expiation for your oaths. Fulfill your oaths. Thus Allah makes clear His verses to you that you may be grateful. O Believers! Indeed, intoxicants, gambling, idols, and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful. Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist Those who disbelieve fabricate lies against Allah, and most of them do not use reason. When they are told, "Come to the Book that Allah has revealed and to the Messenger," they say, "The path we found our forefathers on is sufficient for us." But what if their forefathers knew nothing and were not guided? O Believers! Take care of yourselves; if you are on the right path, those who go astray cannot harm you. To Allah is your return, and He will inform you of what you used to do. O Believers! When death approaches one of you, let him make a will, and let there be two just witnesses from among you; if you are on a journey and the calamity of death befalls you, after the prayer, let them hold back, if you doubt, let them swear, "We will not exchange it for any price, even if he is a relative, and we will not conceal the testimony of Allah, otherwise, we will surely be among the wrongdoers." If it becomes evident that these witnesses have committed a sin, then two others who are closer in right will take their place and swear, "Our testimony is more truthful than their testimony, and we have not overstepped; otherwise, we would surely be among the wrongdoers." This ensures that they perform the testimony as required or fear that their oaths will not be accepted after they have sworn. Fear Allah and listen. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disobedient. On the Day when Allah gathers the messengers, He will say, "What was your response?" They will say, "We have no knowledge; indeed, only You are the All-Knowing of the unseen." Allah had said, "O Jesus, son of Mary! Remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit; you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and I taught you the Scripture and wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel. You designed from clay [what was] like the form of a bird, then you breathed into it, and by My permission, it became a bird; and you healed the blind and the leper by My permission; and when you brought forth the dead by My permission; and when you disclosed to the Children of Israel what you were doing, and they disbelieved, they said, 'This is evident magic,' and I prevented them from harming you." I instructed the disciples, "Believe in Me and in My Messenger," and they said, "We have believed; bear witness that we are Muslims." The disciples said, "O Jesus, son of Mary! Can your Lord send down to us a table spread [with food] from heaven?" He said, "Fear Allah if you are indeed believers." They said, "We wish to eat from it and let our hearts be reassured, and we want to know that you have been truthful to us, and we will be among its witnesses." Jesus, son of Mary, said, "O Allah, our Lord! Send down to us a table spread from heaven to be for us a festival for the first of us and the last of us, and a sign from You. And provide for us; You are the best of providers." Allah said, "Indeed, I will send it down to you, but whoever disbelieves afterward among you, I will surely punish him with a punishment with which I have not punished anyone among the worlds." Allah said, "O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah'?" He said, "Exalted are You! It is not for me to say that which I have no right to say. If I had said it, You would have certainly known it. You know what is within me, and I do not know what is within You. Indeed, it is You who is the Knower of the unseen." He said, "I only said to them what You commanded me: 'Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.' And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me up, You were the Observer over them. And You are, over all things, Witness." "I do not know; indeed, only You are the Knower of the Unseen," he said. "I only conveyed to them what You commanded me, to worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. As long as I was among them, I was a witness over them; but when You took me away, You were watching over them. You are Witness over all things." "If You punish them, indeed they are Your servants; and if You forgive them, surely You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise." Allah said, "This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness; for them are gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide eternally. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Allah. This is the great victory." To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is within them. And Allah has power over all things.
