Ta, Sin, Mim. These are the verses of the clear Book. We will narrate to you the story of Moses and Pharaoh as it truly is, for a believing nation. Pharaoh rose to power in the land and divided his people into factions. He found a group among them weak and began to slaughter their sons while sparing their women; indeed, he was a corruptor. We intended to bestow favor upon those who were deemed weak in the land, to make them leaders, to make them inheritors, and to establish them in the land; and to show Pharaoh, Haman, and their soldiers what they feared. We intended to bestow favor upon those who were deemed weak in the land, to make them leaders, to make them inheritors, and to establish them in the land; and to show Pharaoh, Haman, and their soldiers what they feared. We had informed Moses' mother: "Nurse your child, and when you fear for him, cast him into the river; do not fear or grieve; indeed, We will return him to you and make him one of the messengers." Pharaoh's men had taken him. Pharaoh, Haman, and their soldiers were guilty, and he would become an enemy to them and a source of grief. Pharaoh's wife said: "Let your eyes rejoice and mine! Do not kill him; perhaps he will be of benefit to us or we may adopt him as a son." Indeed, they were unaware of the matter. Moses' mother became empty-hearted in the morning; she could think of nothing but her son. Had We not strengthened her heart so that she would be among the believers, she would have disclosed his identity to them. Moses' sister said: "Follow him." So she watched him from a distance while they were unaware. We had prevented him from accepting the milk of the wet nurses. His sister said: "Shall I direct you to a household that will care for him for you and will be good to him?" Thus, We returned him to his mother so that her eyes might be comforted and she would not grieve, and so that she would know that the promise of Allah is true. But most of them do not know. When Moses reached maturity and was fully grown, We gave him wisdom and knowledge. Thus do We reward the good-doers. One day, when Moses entered the city at a time when its people were unaware, he found two men fighting—one of his own and the other of his enemy. The one who was of his party called for his help against his enemy. Moses struck him, resulting in his death. He said: "This is of Satan's doing; indeed, he is a manifest, misleading enemy." Moses said: "My Lord! Indeed, I have wronged myself, so forgive me." And Allah forgave him; indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. Moses said: "My Lord! By the favor You have bestowed upon me, I will never be an assistant to the criminals." He spent the day in the city, fearful and watching for any signs. The one who had sought his help the day before was again calling for help. Moses said to him: "Indeed, you are a manifest transgressor." When Moses intended to seize the one who was an enemy to both of them, he said: "O Moses! Do you intend to kill me as you killed a soul yesterday? You do not wish to be among the reformers; you only wish to be a tyrant in the land." And there came a man running from the farthest end of the city. He said: "O Moses! The prominent ones are conspiring against you to kill you. So leave; indeed, I am to you among the sincere advisors." Moses left, fearful and watching for any signs. He said: "My Lord! Save me from the wrongdoing people." And when he turned toward Midian, he said: "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way." And when he arrived at the water of Midian, he found there a crowd of people watering (their flocks), and he found besides them two women withholding (their animals). He said: "What is (the matter) with you?" They said: "We cannot water until the shepherds dispatch (their flocks); and our father is an old man." They said, "We are doing this." Moses watered their flocks. Then he withdrew to the shade and said, "My Lord! Indeed, I am in need of whatever good You may send down to me." At that moment, one of the women approached him shyly and said, "My father is calling you to pay you your wages." When Moses went to her, he told her what had happened to him. She said, "Do not fear; you have escaped from the wrongdoing people." One of the women said, "O my father! Hire him; indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and trustworthy man." The father of the women said, "I wish to marry you to one of my two daughters on the condition that you serve me for eight years. But if you complete ten, it will be a favor from you. And I do not wish to place you in difficulty. You will find me, if Allah wills, among the righteous." Moses said, "This is between me and you. Whichever of the two terms I complete, there will be no injustice to me. And Allah is a Witness over what we say." When Moses had completed the term, he set out with his family. He saw a fire on the side of Mount Sinai. He said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I can bring you a torch or find at the fire some guidance." When he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley in the blessed place: "O Moses! Indeed, I am Allah, Lord of the worlds." "Throw down your staff." And when he saw it writhing like a serpent, he turned in flight and did not look back. "O Moses! Return; fear not; indeed, you are among the secure." "Insert your hand into your cloak; it will come out white without disease. And draw in your arm to you from fear. These are the two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a transgressing people." Moses said, "My Lord! Indeed, I have killed a soul among them, and I fear they will kill me. And my brother Aaron is more eloquent than me, so send him with me as a supporter, for I fear that they will deny me." Allah said, "We will strengthen you with your brother, and We will give you both authority so they will not reach you. With Our signs, you and those who follow you will be the predominant." When Moses came to them with clear signs, they said, "This is nothing but invented magic. We have not heard of this among our forefathers." Moses said, "My Lord knows best who has brought guidance from Him and who will have the best end. Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed." Pharaoh said, "O assembly [of nobles]! I do not know of any god for you other than me. O Haman! Build for me a tower of clay so that I may reach the God of Moses, and indeed, I think he is among the liars." And he and his soldiers were arrogant in the land, without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us. So We took him and his soldiers and drowned them in the sea. So see how was the end of the wrongdoers. And We made them leaders, inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be supported. And We made a curse to follow them in this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be among the despised. And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture after We had destroyed the former generations, as a lesson for people and guidance and mercy, that perhaps they would give thought. And when We informed Moses of Our decree, you were not among those present on the western side, nor were you among the witnesses. But We produced many generations, and you were not among the people of Midian. You were not reciting Our verses to them, but We are the ones who sent you the news. When We addressed Moses, you were not by the side of the Mount. You were sent as a mercy from your Lord to warn a people to whom no warner had come before; perhaps they would reflect. When a calamity befell them because of what they had done, they would say: "Our Lord! If only You had sent us a messenger so that we could follow Your signs and be among the believers!" But when the truth came to them from Us, they said: "Why has he not been given the same miracles as Moses was given?" Did they not previously deny what Moses was given? They said: "These are two sorceries that support each other; we deny them all." Say: "If you are truthful, bring forth a Book from Allah that is more guiding than these two, so that I may follow it." If they do not respond to you, know that they are merely following their desires. And who is more astray than one who follows his desires without guidance from Allah? Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. We certainly sent down the revelation to them in succession, perhaps they would reflect. Those to whom We had given the Scripture before believe in this. When the Qur'an is recited to them, they say: "We believe in it; indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. We were already Muslims before it." Indeed, for them, there is a double reward for their patience; and they repel evil with good and spend from what We have provided them. And when they hear idle talk, they turn away from it and say: "For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace be upon you; we do not seek the ignorant." You cannot guide whom you love, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best the rightly guided. They said: "If we follow you upon guidance, we will be driven out of our land." But did We not establish them in a secure sanctuary, to which are brought the fruits of all things as provision from Us? But most of them do not know. And We destroyed many cities that were ungrateful for the favor and prosperity they had received. Here are their dwellings! Few of them remained after them. We became their inheritors. Your Lord was not to destroy the cities until He had sent to their mother a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We did not destroy the cities except when their people were wrongdoing. And whatever has been given to you is only the enjoyment of the worldly life and its adornment, and what is with Allah is better and everlasting. Do you not understand? Is he who has been promised a good promise from which he will attain, like him whom We have given the provision of this world, then on the Day of Resurrection he will be among those brought for punishment? Allah will call to them on that Day: "Where are My partners that you used to claim?" Those against whom the decree will be fulfilled will say: "Our Lord! These are the ones we led astray; we led them astray as we were astray. We disassociate ourselves from them; they did not worship us." It will be said: "Call upon your partners." But they will call upon them, yet they will not respond to them, and they will see the punishment. If only they had been guided! On that Day, Allah will call to them: "What answer did you give to the messengers?" On that Day, their eyes will be blinded to the news, and they will have no ability to respond; nor will they be able to ask one another. But as for the one who repents, believes, and does righteous work, it is hoped that he will be among the successful. Your Lord creates and chooses what He wills; there is no choice for them. Exalted is Allah above what they associate with Him. Your Lord knows what their breasts conceal and what they declare. Allah! There is no deity except Him. Praise is to Him in this world and the Hereafter. It is for Him; the judgment belongs to Him. You will surely be returned to Him. Say: "Do you say: If Allah were to extend the night over you until the Day of Resurrection, which god other than Allah could bring you light? Will you not listen?" Say: "Tell me: If Allah were to extend the day over you until the Day of Resurrection, which god other than Allah could bring you the night in which you may rest? Do you not see?" Allah has made the night for you to rest and the day for you to seek His provision. These are from His mercy. Perhaps you will be grateful. On that Day, Allah will call to them: "Where are those whom you claimed to be My partners?" Then We will bring forth a witness from every nation and say, "Produce your proof." Then they will know that the truth belongs to Allah, and what they used to invent will forsake them. Qarun was of the people of Musa; but he was arrogant towards them. We had given him treasures, the keys of which a strong group could hardly carry. His people said to him: "Do not exult; indeed, Allah does not like the exultant. And seek by means of what Allah has given you the home of the Hereafter, and do not forget your share of the world; and do good as Allah has done good to you; and desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not like the corrupters." Qarun said: "This wealth has been given to me only because of the knowledge I have." Does he not know that Allah had destroyed before him generations who were greater than him in strength and greater in accumulation? The criminals will not be asked about their sins. Qarun came out to his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said: "Oh, would that we had what Qarun was given! Indeed, he is one of great fortune." But those who had been given knowledge said: "Woe to you! The reward of Allah is better for he who believes and does righteousness. And none are granted it except the patient." So We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. And he had no company to aid him against Allah, nor was he of those who could defend themselves. The ones who had wished for his position the day before began to say: "Oh, how Allah extends provision to whom He wills of His servants and restricts it. If Allah had not favored us, He would have caused the earth to swallow us. Oh, how the disbelievers do not succeed!" We will give this home of the Hereafter to those who do not desire exaltation upon the earth or corruption. And the outcome belongs to those who fear Allah. And whoever brings a good deed will have better than it; and whoever brings an evil deed - those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except as they used to do. Allah, who has made it obligatory upon you to follow the Quran, will surely return you to the place of your return. Say: "My Lord knows best who has come with guidance and who is in clear error." You did not expect that this Book would be revealed to you, but it is a mercy from your Lord. So never be an assistant to the disbelievers. And let them not turn you away from the signs of Allah after they have been sent down to you. Invite to your Lord, and never be of the polytheists. And do not invoke with Allah another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything besides Him will perish. The judgment is His, and to Him you will be returned.
