Translation (EN)
The time for people to be held accountable has approached, yet they remain unaware, turning away from the truth. Whenever a new warning comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it with hearts in heedlessness, entertaining themselves. The wrongdoers, in their secret meetings, say: "Is this man anything other than a human like you? Will you follow him while you see clearly that he is a magician?" The Prophet said: "My Lord knows what is said in the heavens and the earth. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." They said: "No; these are confused dreams," "No; he has fabricated it," "No; he is a poet," "Let him bring us a miracle like the previous prophets did." The people of the towns we destroyed before them did not believe; will these believe? We sent men to them whom We had revealed to, before you. If you do not know, ask the People of the Scripture. We did not make them mere corpses that do not eat, nor were they immortal. Then We fulfilled Our promise to them, saving them and those We willed; and We destroyed the excessive transgressors. Indeed, We have sent down to you a Book that is a source of honor and advice; do you not understand? We have destroyed many towns whose people were wrongdoers and established other nations after them. When they felt Our might, they began to flee from there. We said: "Do not run away; return to the place of your blessings and to your homes; surely you will be questioned." They said: "Woe to us! Indeed, we were wrongdoers." Their cries continued until We made them like cut grass and a heap of ashes. We did not create the heavens, the earth, and what is between them in play. If We had wished to take a pastime, We would have taken it from what is with Us; but We do not do that. We strike the truth against falsehood, and it crushes its head; thus falsehood vanishes. Woe to you for the attributes you ascribe to Allah! To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. Those who are near Him do not disdain to worship Him, nor do they tire. They glorify Him night and day without fatigue. Do they have gods on earth who can raise the dead? If there were gods in the heavens and the earth other than Allah, both would have been corrupted. Exalted is Allah, the Lord of the Throne, above what they describe. He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned. Have they taken gods besides Him? Say: "Bring forth your clear proof. Here is my Book and the Book of my community, and the books before me." No; most of them do not know the truth and turn away. We have certainly sent to every prophet before you: "There is no deity except Me; worship Me." They said: "The Most Merciful has taken a child." Exalted is He! Rather, they are honored servants. They do not speak before Him, and they act by His command. Allah knows what they do and what they are doing. They cannot intercede except for one whom He approves; and they tremble in awe of Him. And among them is he who says, "I am a god besides Allah." We will punish him with Hell. Thus do We punish the wrongdoers. Do the disbelievers not know that the heavens and the earth were a closed-up mass, then We opened them out? And We made every living thing from water. Will they not believe? We placed firm mountains on the earth so it would not shake with them, and We made wide paths between them so they may be guided. We made the sky a protected canopy. We have created; yet they turn away from the signs therein. He is the One who created the night and the day, the sun and the moon. Each in an orbit is swimming. We did not make any human immortal before you; will you die while they remain? Every soul shall taste death. We test you with good and evil as a trial. Ultimately, you will return to Us. When the disbelievers see you, they will surely mock you, saying, "Is this the one who speaks ill of your gods?" And they deny the Most Merciful's Book. Man is created hastily. I will show you My signs; do not hasten Me. They say, "If you are truthful, inform us when this threat will come." If only these disbelievers knew the time they will not be able to avert the fire from their faces and backs, and they will not find help! Perhaps it will come upon them suddenly and surprise them. They will not be able to turn it back; nor will they be given respite. Indeed, many prophets were mocked before you, and those who mocked them were engulfed by what they used to ridicule. Say: "Who can protect you at night and during the day from the Most Merciful?" Yet they turn away from the Book of their Lord. Or do they have gods to defend them against Us? Those gods cannot help themselves. They will not find friendship from Us. We have provided for them and their forefathers until their lifetimes were prolonged; do they not see that We have diminished their land from all sides? Are they the ones who are dominant? Say: "I only warn you by revelation." When they are warned, the deaf do not hear the call. If a breeze of your Lord's punishment touches them, they will say: "Woe to us! Indeed, we were wrongdoers." On the Day of Resurrection, We will set up just scales; no soul will be wronged in any way. Even if it is the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. We are sufficient as a Reckoner. Indeed, We gave the Book that distinguishes right from wrong to Moses and Aaron as a light and a reminder for those who are conscious of Allah. They fear their Lord, although they do not see Him, and they tremble at the Hour. This is a blessed Book that We have revealed. Do you disbelieve in it? Indeed, We had shown Ibrahim what was reasonable before. We knew him well. Ibrahim said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you devote yourselves?" They said: "We found our forefathers worshiping them." Ibrahim said: "Indeed, you and your forefathers are in clear error." They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of the jesters?" He said: "No; your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them. And I am of those who bear witness to that." "I swear by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you turn away!" He left them shattered, except for the largest of them, so they might turn to it. The people said: "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is one of the wrongdoers." Some said: "We heard a young man named Ibrahim mention them." They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people so they may testify." When Ibrahim came, they said to him: "O Ibrahim, did you do this to our gods?" Ibrahim said: "Perhaps it was the largest of them that did it; ask them if they can speak." They turned to themselves, saying: "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers," and then returned to their old beliefs, saying: "O Ibrahim! You surely know these do not speak." They said, "O Ibrahim! You surely know that these do not speak." Ibrahim said, "Then why do you worship what can neither benefit nor harm you, apart from Allah? Woe to you and to what you worship besides Allah! Do you not understand?" They said, "If you are going to do something, then burn him and support your gods!" We said, "O fire! Be cool and safe for Ibrahim." They intended to harm him, but We made them the losers. We delivered him and Lut to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. We gave Ibrahim, in addition, Ishaq and Yaqub, and each of them We made righteous. We made them leaders guiding by Our command, and We inspired them to do good deeds, establish prayer, and give zakah. They were worshippers of Us. We also gave Lut judgment and knowledge; We saved him from the city that committed abominations. Indeed, they were a wicked people. We admitted Lut into Our mercy; indeed, he was of the righteous. Nuh had previously called upon Us, and We accepted his supplication and saved him and his family from the great distress. We aided him against the people who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a wicked people, and We drowned them all. Dawud and Sulayman judged concerning the tilled land over which the sheep of the people had strayed, and We were witnesses to their judgment. We had informed Sulayman of the ruling in this matter; We gave each of them judgment and knowledge. We made the mountains and the birds glorify Us along with Dawud. We did this. We taught him the art of making armor to protect you in battle; will you then be grateful? We sent a violent wind, by the command of Sulayman, towards the blessed land. We knew all things. We placed the devils, who dived and did other work, under his command. We were watching over all of them. Ayyub also called out to his Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful." We accepted his supplication and removed the affliction that had befallen him. As a mercy from Us and as a lesson for the worshippers, We gave him back his family and a like of them. Remember Ismail, Idris, and Dhul-Kifl; they were all among the patient. We admitted them into Our mercy; indeed, they were of the righteous. Remember the case of Dhun-Nun (the one with the fish; Yunus). He went away in anger, thinking that We would not constrain him. But then, in the darkness, he called out, "There is no deity except You; exalted are You! Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers." We responded to him and saved him from grief. Thus do We save the believers. Zakariya also called out, "My Lord, do not leave me alone, while You are the best of inheritors." We responded to him and granted him Yahya, and We made his wife capable of bearing a child. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds, calling upon Us in hope and fear, and they were humbly submissive to Us. We breathed into Maryam of Our Spirit and made her and her son a sign for the worlds. Indeed, the religion of Islam, which is the religion of monotheism, is your religion, and I am your Lord; so worship Me. But the people divided their religion among them into sects; each faction rejoices in what they have. They will all return to Us. The deeds of the doer will not be denied. We are recording it. It is impossible for the people of the towns We have destroyed to return to Us to be punished in the Hereafter. When the barrier of Gog and Magog is broken, they will rush down from every height and valley. When the true promise draws near, the eyes of those who disbelieve will be fixed in horror: "Woe to us! We were indeed heedless of this, and we were wrongdoers!" You and what you worship besides Allah are the fuel of Hell; you will enter it. If these were gods, they would not enter Hell; they will all abide therein. There will be sighing for them there, and they will not hear anything. Those for whom good things have been written in Our sight as a reward for what they have done, indeed, they are the ones who will be kept far from Hell. They will not hear its roaring. They will abide in what their souls desire. Even the greatest fear will not sadden them; and the angels will greet them, saying: "This is your day that you were promised." When We fold the heaven like a scroll, as We began the creation, We will bring it back as a promise from Us. Indeed, We will do it. And We had certainly written in the Psalms after the Torah that the earth will be inherited by My righteous servants. Indeed, there is a message in this Qur'an for those who worship. We have only sent you as a mercy to the worlds. Say: "Indeed, it has been revealed to me that your god is but one God. Will you not then submit?" If they turn away, say: "I have indeed conveyed to you what I was sent with; I do not know whether what you are threatened with is near or far." "Indeed, He knows the open word and He knows what you conceal." "I do not know; perhaps this delay is a trial for you and an enjoyment for a time." The Prophet said: "My Lord! Judge between us with truth, and our Lord is the Most Merciful, the One whose help is sought against what you describe."
