Riyâ
"Riyâ is the act of performing worship for the sake of showing off to others."
Spiritual & Deep Meaning
Riyâ means performing acts of worship not solely for the pleasure of Allah, but for the purpose of showing off to others. In Islam, Riyâ is considered a major sin, as this attitude harms the sincerity of the individual and the essence of their faith. In Sufism, Riyâ is regarded as a phenomenon that destroys the sincerity in the heart. The guide (Murshid) provides guidance to ensure that the disciple (Murid) stays away from Riyâ and convinces them of the necessity to turn to Allah with a sincere heart.
