Nafs al-Ammara represents the lowest degree of the human nafs and describes a state where bad desires and wishes emerge uncontrollably. As a Sufi term, this concept is seen as one of the obstacles in a person's spiritual journey. This state of the nafs often triggers bad behaviors, sins, and bad habits. The seeker must discipline this nafs during the journey of seyr-i suluk. This discipline process is possible by controlling the nafs, being patient, and adopting good morals. Nafs al-Ammara is considered the first step for a person to overcome their inner conflicts and reach noble moral values.
