Self
"The self is a concept that defines a person's inner world, ambitions, and desires."
Spiritual & Deep Meaning
In Islam, the self is a concept that expresses a person's true essence, inner world, and spiritual dimension. There are various degrees of the self; such as Nafs-i Ammarah, Nafs-i Lawwamah, and Nafs-i Mutmainnah. Nafs-i Ammarah refers to the self that is inclined towards evil and desires; Nafs-i Lawwamah refers to the self that questions this state, and Nafs-i Mutmainnah refers to the self that has surrendered to Allah and found peace. In Sufism, training the self and gaining mastery over it is one of the most important elements of spiritual elevation. Controlling the self not only facilitates the individual's spiritual development but also ensures societal peace.
