Repentance

Repentance in Islam is the decision of an individual to turn away from sins and turn towards Allah. This natural process is a result of feelings of longing and remorse. To repent expresses a heartfelt and spiritual return to Allah. Muslims acknowledge their sins and sincerely seek forgiveness from Allah. The acceptance of repentance depends on the sincerity of the individual. Many Islamic scholars view the essence of repentance as being captured by the heart and seeing intention as fundamental; thus, repentance is a process of spiritual transformation and purification. In Islamic culture, repentance is regarded as a key that opens the door to mercy.
