Spiritual & Deep Meaning
Nafs is a concept in Islam that expresses a person's true self, inner world, and spiritual dimension. There are various levels of nafs; such as Nafs-i Ammarah, Nafs-i Lawwamah, and Nafs-i Mutmainnah. Nafs-i Ammarah refers to the nafs that inclines towards evil and desires; Nafs-i Lawwamah is the nafs that questions this state, and Nafs-i Mutmainnah represents the nafs that has surrendered to Allah and found peace. In Sufism, training the nafs and mastering it is one of the most important elements of spiritual elevation. Controlling the nafs not only facilitates a person's spiritual development but also ensures social harmony.
