Marifah
"Marifah means to know Allah and His creation in depth."
Spiritual & Deep Meaning
The term marifah is used to denote a state of knowing that transcends knowledge in Sufism. For the Sufi, marifah means not only knowing the names and attributes of Allah but also comprehending and internalizing Him. Marifah is the union of knowledge and the heart and can be defined as a light that comes from the heart. A person who possesses marifah is one who has understood the purpose of human existence and the secret of being, and is the one closest to Allah at this point. This deep understanding is a significant stage in an individual's spiritual journey.
Example / Wisdom Quote
"One of the great Sufi masters, Hallaj al-Mansur, said, 'Marifah is merely knowing; understanding is a stage.'"
