Tekke

A Tekke is a place where the teachings of Sufism are practiced and spiritual education is provided under the guidance of the sheikhs. Generally, these places are where dhikr, prayer, and love are experienced, carrying important elements of Sufi education. Tekkeler are also significant areas for ensuring social solidarity, mutual assistance, and community services. Tekkeler play a major role in the spiritual development of seekers, especially as places where Sufi rituals are performed. However, distinct differences in practices can be observed among tekkes affiliated with different orders. Tekkeler, which hold an important place in the spiritual lives of Muslims, have gradually become centers for social and cultural activities.
