Riyâ
"Riyâ is the act of performing worship for the sake of showing off to others."
Spiritual & Deep Meaning
Riyâ means performing acts of worship not solely for the pleasure of Allah, but for the purpose of showing off to others. In Islam, Riyâ is considered a major sin because this attitude undermines the sincerity of the individual and the essence of their faith. In Sufism, Riyâ is regarded as a phenomenon that destroys the sincerity in the heart. The guide (Murshid) advises the disciple (Murid) to stay away from Riyâ and convinces them of the necessity to turn sincerely towards Allah with a pure heart.
Example / Wisdom Quote
"Hadith: "Whoever performs an action for the sake of showing off, he nullifies that action within himself.""
