Islamic Parables - Tales from Yunus Emre's Spiritual World and the Tapduk Emre Lodge

A Tale Inspiring Those with the Problem of Impatience

Yunus Emre, every day at the Tapduk Emre lodge, would wake up early in the morning and begin to bask in the light of the morning sun. One day, one of the dervishes chose to ignore the donated belongings. Yunus immediately approached him and tried to explain the beauty of patience and gratitude. That dervish was too inexperienced to be caught up in transient things. Yunus decided to tell him a story: Once upon a time, a man lost his most precious jewels. He was very sad and sought help from people. However, as time passed, he realized that it was not the lost belongings but the peace and patience within him that were the most valuable things. This lesson had a profound impact on the dervish.
