Islamic Parables - Unique Brotherhood Between Emigrants and Helpers

A Tale to Support Those Struggling with Debt

"Debt can be a troubling situation for many people and a barrier to be overcome. During this challenging process, when people feel alone, their search for support increases. The agreement between Abdurrahman and Sa’d demonstrates how brotherhood and solidarity can be a remedy in the face of financial difficulties. This tale, which explains how acting together can help us overcome problems more easily, emphasizes the value of selfless friendships for those burdened by debt."

As soon as the Emigrants set foot in Medina, the Prophet Muhammad instructed them to become brothers with one another. In this regard, it is the pairing between Abdurrahman ibn Awf and Sa’d ibn Rabi. Sa’d said to Abdurrahman, 'My house and wealth are yours. Take whatever you need.' Abdurrahman, however, expressed that he only came to be his brother, saying, 'Just guide me.' He did not seek a relationship based on money or wealth. Sa’d, in a different manner, exhibited an exemplary attitude by stating, 'Wealth is not just property, but knowledge and solidarity.' This mutual conscious brotherhood gradually spread among all Muslims in Medina. Everyone gathered together in prayer, united by faith and sharing. This brotherhood, which took care of each other's needs, strengthened social life and unity.
