Good Morals and Etiquette
Good morals and etiquette are among the cornerstones of Islam, serving as an important principle that guides Muslims in their daily lives. Islam encourages individuals to act with good morals and etiquette while fulfilling their responsibilities towards both Allah and other people. This is not only an individual virtue but also plays a critical role in ensuring social peace and harmony. Our Prophet (peace be upon him) has guided Muslims in this regard, exemplifying the best of good morals and encouraging them to embody these qualities. The importance of good morals and etiquette is frequently emphasized in the hadiths, highlighting how essential these virtues are for happiness in both this world and the Hereafter. These hadiths serve as a guide for Muslims to direct their lives and strengthen their moral values.
إِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ لِأُتَمِّمَ صَالِحَ الأَخْلاَقِ
"I was only sent to perfect good character."
Our Prophet (peace be upon him) stated that his purpose of being sent was to perfect good character. This emphasizes the importance of morals in Islam.
مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ
"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent."
We should be careful with our words, either speaking good or remaining silent. This shows the importance of controlling our tongue.
إِنَّ مِنْ خِيَارِكُمْ أَحْسَنَكُمْ أَخْلاَقًا
"The best among you are those with the best character."
Good morals are the most valuable trait of a Muslim. Beautifying our character increases our worth in the sight of Allah.
لَيْسَ الشَّدِيدُ بِالصُّرَعَةِ، إِنَّمَا الشَّدِيدُ الَّذِي يَمْلِكُ نَفْسَهُ عِنْدَ الْغَضَبِ
"The strong is not the one who overcomes others in wrestling; rather, the strong is the one who controls himself when angry."
Being able to control ourselves in moments of anger is a sign of true strength and good morals.
مَنْ لَا يَرْحَمُ النَّاسَ لَا يَرْحَمُهُ اللَّهُ
"He who does not show mercy to people will not be shown mercy by Allah."
Mercy is one of the cornerstones of good morals. When we show mercy to others, we attain Allah's mercy.
