Islam's Compass 10 Minutes

Introduction

In the journey of life, it is inevitable for a person to encounter mistakes, sins, and regrets at times. However, the mercy and forgiveness of Allah surpass all. In this context, the process we refer to as 'The Gate of Repentance' is one of the most beautiful ways to purify our souls and draw closer to our Lord. The Seyyid al-Istighfar prayer guides us on this spiritual journey.

Historical/Religious Background

Repentance holds great significance in the Quran and Sunnah. In the Holy Quran, Allah says, "O you who have believed! Repent to Allah with sincere repentance." (Surah An-Nur, 31st Verse). In the Hadith, our Prophet (peace be upon him) emphasizes the importance of repentance by stating, "I seek forgiveness from Allah seventy times a day."

Detailed Lists and Applications

The Seyyid al-Istighfar prayer holds a special place in the heart of a repentant believer. Here is this prayer:

Transliteration: Allahumme ente Rabbi, la ilahe illa ente, halakteni ve ene abduke, ve ene ala ahdike ve va'dike mestetatu, euzu bike min şerri ma sanatu, ebuü leke bi nimetike aleyye ve ebuü bi zenbi, fağfir li, fe innehü la yağfirü'z-zünube illa ente.

Translation: O Allah! You are my Lord. There is no deity but You. You created me, and I am Your servant. I am committed to Your covenant and promise as much as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me and confess my sins. Forgive me, for none forgives sins except You.

This prayer can be integrated into daily life by reciting it after the morning and evening prayers.

Lessons from Scholars

Great Islamic scholar Imam Ghazali emphasized the importance of performing repentance with sincerity. He stated, "Repentance should come from the depths of the heart, and one must resolve not to fall into the same mistakes again." This reminds us that repentance should be performed not only with the tongue but also with the heart.

Conclusion

Every moment we turn to our Lord, the doors of His mercy are wide open. Let us intend to open a clean page with the Seyyid al-Istighfar prayer and free ourselves from the burdens in our hearts. We pray that Allah forgives us and guides us to the right path. Ameen.
